Kappé Schiphol trials Essilor-Luxottica’s virtual try-on solution

NETHERLANDS. Travel retailer Kappé Schiphol is to trial eyewear company Essilor-Luxottica’s Smart Shopper solution this month. It enables consumers to try on sunglasses virtually in its stores at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

Smart Shopper gives passengers the opportunity, via augmented reality technologies, to virtually try any sunglasses model, in any variant, thanks to the proprietary technologies of ‘virtual mirroring’ in the tool.

The tool is fully integrated with Luxottica digital infrastructure, allowing it to extend its physical assortment with the digital experience. Kappé noted that the solution ensures great flexibility, especially when space in-store is limited and stock levels need be optimised.

In addition, Kappé also noted that the virtual try-on is also available through shoppers’ own smartphone cameras, giving them the ability to share pictures with friends. This, it said, makes the experience more social and fun and can help attract more potential customers.

Kappé Schiphol said it will expand the digital experience during December, offering shoppers the opportunity to virtually try on eyewear from brands including Burberry, Prada, Persol and Dolce&Gabbana.

The latest digital retail experiment follows Kappé Schiphol’s successful introduction of a kiosk programme in June, as reported, which enabled travellers to shop for their beauty products digitally in-store at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

Kappé Schiphol runs beauty and sunglasses concessions at the Dutch gateway.
