UK. King Power Group’s Sunil Tuli has been at the forefront of growing the Scotch whisky category in duty free throughout his career – and his achievements have now been recognised in a prestigious Scottish ceremony.
The King Power Group (Hong Kong) Managing Director of Duty Free and Travel Retail has been inducted as a Keeper of the Quaich, an exclusive international society that honours people who have shown outstanding commitment to the Scotch whisky industry.
The organisation is represented in 103 countries, and has about 2,500 members worldwide.
Tuli’s induction took place at Blair Castle, Scotland, on 11 April. “I am absolutely delighted to be inducted into this society, and honoured to have been chosen,” he said. “I have several friends and acquaintances who are already members, and it is indeed a privilege to be made a part of this select group.”
Keepers of the Quaich Chairman Peter Prentice commented: “With 32 years of service to the industry spanning the Indian sub-continent, Asia and the Pacific, Sunil Tuli has given his heart and soul to the Scotch whisky industry, playing a key role in the tremendous growth of the category across the world of duty free.”
Tuli was General Manager at the India Tourism Development Corporation from 1984 to 1990, where he is credited with pioneering a renaissance in Scotch whisky in India, attracting both commitment and investment from the industry. In 1990 he joined The Weitnauer Group (now Dufry) becoming COO for Asia Pacific and the Middle East, before his switch to King Power Group in 2003. Tuli continued to promote Scotch across these regions, particularly in the prestige category.
