Lotte Duty Free adds spice to Gimpo Airport retail offer with Premium Kimchi launch

A taste of Korean culinary heritage lands in travel retail as Lotte Duty Free brings one of Seoul’s best-known hotel dishes to international travellers

SOUTH KOREA. Lotte Duty Free has expanded its K-food assortment with the exclusive launch of Lotte Hotel’s Premium Kimchi brand at its Gimpo International Airport, Seoul store, ahead of a roll-out at Incheon International Airport lfrom 12 August.

Developed from the long-standing recipe of Mugunghwa restaurant at Lotte Hotel Seoul, the kimchi reflects more than 40 years of culinary expertise.

It combines carefully sourced Korean cabbage and chilli powder with premium salted seafood (jeotgal) and a flavourful broth made from dried pollack, shrimp, shiitake mushrooms and kelp.

The kimchi range is available in seven varieties, all presented in travel-friendly packaging. These include two mini-kimchi bundle packs (10 x 80g, featuring seasoned kimchi and stir-fried kimchi); four container-type products (650g, including seasoned kimchim white kimchi, young summer radish kimchi, and cubed radish kimchi); and one pouch-type cabbage kimchi (1.2kg).

Targeting international tourists, overseas Korean residents and departing Korean nationals, the offering responds to growing demand for premium K-food in travel retail.

Lotte Duty Free has been expanding its exclusive K-food assortment with brands such as Seja Coffee, Muryangsu and Bokhodu, reinforcing its airport retail offer.

The strategy reflects growing global demand for Korean cuisine, with the retailer reporting an +89% year-on-year surge in K-food sales to foreign customers in the second quarter.

The company noted it will continue to expand its K-food offering across its airport stores, providing travellers with a broader selection of premium Korean food products.

A Lotte Duty Free official said, “With global interest in K-food on the rise, demand for Korean food products as souvenirs is also increasing.

“As we are the first and only duty-free retailer to offer Lotte Hotel Kimchi, we will continue to expand our differentiated K-food offerings to provide new shopping experiences and strengthen our competitiveness in the food category.”
