Customers are welcomed by a striking ‘Star’ installation at the entrance, where natural light blends with the artwork to evoke the warmth of the morning sun. The piece embodies the inner light of the human spirit, as well as individuality, emotion and identity.

The eyewear collection is presented across sleek display counters and fixtures that highlight the brand’s modern, art-driven aesthetic

Inside, three ‘Giant Head Kinetic Objects’ with contemplative expressions and moving eyes provide an artistic reflection on human thoughts, emotions and relationships.

The opening taps into growing passenger traffic at Kansai region’s largest international hub, which served approximately 25.7 million passengers in 2025.

With the completion of the airport’s fourth-phase redevelopment, annual international capacity has now reached 40 million passengers, positioning KIX to accommodate rising global travel demand.

As reported, Kansai International Airport formally celebrated the completion of the fourth and final phase of Terminal 1’s multi-year renovation on 2 June, alongside the opening of a commercial zone featuring an ambitious enhancement of the retail and dining offer.

Lotte Duty Free said the addition of Gentle Monster will strengthen the company’s brand portfolio at its Kansai Airport operation while enhancing the fashion eyewear offer.

Since entering Kansai International Airport in 2014, the retailer has steadily expanded its presence in Japan travel retail and today operates premium jewellery boutiques, including Bvlgari and Chaumet.

In Korea, Gentle Monster is also part of Lotte Duty Free’s brand line-up, available through its Myeong-dong flagship store, World Tower branch, Jeju operation and online duty-free platform.

A Lotte Duty Free spokesperson said: “It is meaningful to introduce Gentle Monster, a leading force in global eyewear trends, to our Kansai Airport store as the first brand of its kind in Japan’s duty-free channel.

“We will continue to enhance the shopping experience for travellers from around the world through differentiated brand partnerships and innovative space marketing initiatives, while further strengthening our position in the global duty-free market.”
