ITALY. Luxottica Travel Retail, a division of leading eyewear company Luxottica Group, has announced the continued expansion of its team with new members set to join during October 2008.
The division has seen double-digit growth across all regions over the last year as a result of increased investment in the channel, newly implemented category management initiatives and improved customer service, following the introduction of regional sales managers and marketing teams in Europe, the Americas and Asia.
A further stage in the company’s expansion sees Romina Zaffiri appointed to the new role of Commercial Planner based at the division’s headquarters in Dublin. Zaffiri most recently worked for the Sixty Group where she was Store Planning & Control Manager for all stores within the Sixty brand portfolio.
Philip Playdon is named as the new Travel Retail Sales Manager, overseeing and working closely with Elisa Gasparini, Marco Gadola and Justin Ng, Area Sales Managers for Europe, Middle East and Africa; the Americas; and Asia, respectively.

Playdon joins the division after two years with Luxottica, where he was Business Development Manager for Eire and Northern Ireland domestic markets. He has 15 years’ experience in sales management, working in both Ireland and his home country of South Africa. Playdon will be overseeing sales across all travel retail regions and with a direct involvement on key accounts, reporting to Group Travel Retail Director Francis Gros.
In addition to Roberta Rosso (Marketing Co-ordinator Europe, Middle East and Africa), the travel retail marketing team is strengthened by the appointment of Marcela Braga as Marketing Co-ordinator for the Americas. Based in Miami, Braga – who joins Luxottica from Baume & Mercier – brings with her great experience of the luxury goods sector, the company said. Braga reports to Travel Retail Marketing Manager Monica Bortoluzzi.
The latest additions to Luxottica Travel Retail team will ensure that Luxottica Group retain the position of category leader, the firm said. The team remains focused on its goal to provide seamless service to its customers and to help travel retailers maximise the potential of the sunglasses category, it added.
The Luxottica Travel Retail team will be at the TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes later this month (Riviera Village RG8).
