AUSTRALIA. Melbourne Airport has welcomed the opening of Melbourne food brand Café Vue in its new international terminal.
Passengers can now sample the cuisine of award-winning Melbourne chef Shannon Bennett in the cafe, which has unparalleled views of the airfield through 10m high windows.
Melbourne Airport CEO Chris Woodruff said Café Vue was part of a new international passenger precinct which would serve 2.9 million departing international passengers a year.
“Transforming our passenger experience was an important part of our international terminal redevelopment,” Woodruff explained. “Melbourne Airport continues to experience strong international passenger growth, up +14.3% in October over the same period last year.”
Airport Retail Enterprises CEO John Chapman said: “Melbourne is renowned for its great food and we are delighted to be bringing Café Vue – a quintessential Melbourne dining experience – to international travellers. We work to continuously offer choice, quality and value for money in terminal dining.”
Café Vue will source local produce in its extensive breakfast and lunch menus, offering oysters, caviar and Blackmore Wagyu steak. It also has signature lunch boxes from A$15 and a breakfast box, also A$15, and a three-course dinner box from A$30.
“Café Vue will also offer a range of wines from Australia and around the world, in addition to a selection of beers, ales and spirits, specifically chosen to complement the French-inspired dishes,” Bennett said.
“It’s not every day that the opportunity to be a part of millions of international journeys presents itself. I am excited about providing food to tempt and delight Melbourne’s international travellers.”
Stage one of the international terminal expansion will see 11 new retail offerings and food and beverage outlets open.
The expansion will cater to a growing international passenger market that is projected to increase to up to 12 million international passengers per year by 2027.
