Mezzo launches online pre-booking for its inflight entertainment offer – 20/07/07

Mezzo portable IFE will be available on most Flyglobespan routes by mid-July

UK. Portable inflight entertainment (IFE) specialist Mezzo has introduced online pre-booking for its retail IFE services operating on UK partner airlines Jet2.com and Flyglobespan.

Passengers can now pre-book the latest Mezzo inflight entertainment at two new websites – http://jet2.mezzo.aero and http://flyglobespan.mezzo.aero – as the company makes the first step in developing what it considers to be one of its critical development paths – online consumer presence.

The sites are managed exclusively by Mezzo and are co-branded to reinforce the close collaboration between the airline partners and the Mezzo brand.

“With virtually everyone booking flights on the internet, providing the ability for our customers to pre-book Mezzo online was always essential,” said Mezzo Executive Director Martin Cunnison.

“Our web presence is just another way Mezzo can get closer to customers and further develop our insight into what makes a great IFE service. With the foresight of advanced orders, we can also start to adapt the number of players per sector and hence improve asset utilisation rates and reduce unnecessary weight, thus making our own small but important contribution towards reducing our airline partners’ carbon footprints.”

The portable entertainment player allows passengers to view their own choice of videos and TV programmes, listen to music and play games

Online orders have already surpassed internal launch expectations, said the company, leading it to accelerate new routes and further invest in the sites’ capabilities.

Flyglobespan is tripling the number of players it provides to passengers on its short- and long-haul aircraft, with Mezzo services to be extended beyond economy to include premium economy and premium class cabins on aircraft operating throughout Europe, Canada and USA. Portable IFE will be available on the majority of Flyglobespan routes by mid-July.

“This is a significant validation of our work to date with Flyglobespan,” added Cunnison. “We have shown that our retail IFE model can be integrated very successfully into a low cost airline to differentiate its onboard offer from the competition and retain its low cost credentials.

“A Mezzo service makes a strong positive contribution to the airline’s business model which is clearly reflected in the decision to extend the number of Mezzo players, routes and availability across all cabins at Flyglobespan.”
