Healthy growth: Moscow Domodedovo Airport posted +9% passenger growth in 2008 |
RUSSIA. Moscow Domodedovo Airport recorded a strong +9% increase in passenger numbers in 2008, with the figure hitting 20.4 million. International passenger traffic surged by +11.9% to 12 million. The most popular international routes were Antalya, Hurghada, Sharm El-Sheikh, London, Frankfurt, Tel Aviv and Dubai.
Passenger traffic on domestic routes in 2008 reached 8.3 million passengers, a +5.1% rise over 2007. The most popular destinations in Russia were St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, Sochi, Krasnodar, Mineralnie Vodi and Khabarovsk.
The highest growth rates were recorded on key destinations Frankfurt, St. Petersburg, Munich, Kaliningrad, Khabarovsk, Sochi, Kishinev, Vladivostok, Vienna and Krasnodar. Domodedovo handled 2,977,962 passengers on these routes, a +68.3% rise compared to 2007.
During the year the airport’s route network was widened to include flights to Budapest, Dublin, Abu Dhabi, Houston, Hamburg, Ostrava, Ivano-Frankovsk and Yokshar-Ola. New airline partners included Lufthansa, American Airlines, Malev, Etihad, Aegean Airlines, Arkia, Israir, Wind Rose and Region-Avia.
