Double-digit growth: The rise of Moscow Domodedovo Airport continues in early 2008 |
RUSSIA. Moscow Domodedovo International Airport has reported passenger traffic of 1,853,280 million in May, a surge of +26.5% compared to May 2007. Between January and May this year Domodedovo welcomed 7,529,956 passengers, a +24.4% rise over the same period last year.
International passenger numbers leapt by +28.3% to 1,117,699 in the month, while domestic passenger numbers grew by +23.7% to 735,581.
The key growth destinations were St. Petersburg, Bangkok, Frankfurt, Vienna, Novosibirsk, Kaliningrad, Munich, Krasnodar, Sharm El Sheikh and Dushanbe. In total, 1,550,616 passengers were carried on these routes in May.
Aircraft movements in the month were 17,211, a +17.5% rise over the same period in 2007.
The numbers are particularly noteworthy because May 2007 passenger figures were +22% higher than in 2006. Domodedovo management company East Line said the figures underlined the airport’s status as Moscow’s – and Russia’s – number one airport by passenger volume.
