The Estée Lauder Companies has appointed Nancy Mahon as Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO), reflecting the ongoing evolution of the group’s ambitions and capabilities in this key aspect of its business.
Previously Senior Vice President, Global Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability, Mahon joins ELC’s Executive Leadership Team, reporting to President and Chief Executive Officer Fabrizio Freda and Executive Chairman William P. Lauder.
In her new role, Mahon will focus on the strategic integration and implementation of ELC’s sustainability initiatives, and oversee Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) reporting across the organisation. She will continue to serve as Executive Director of The Estée Lauder Companies’ Charitable Foundation and remain a member of the ESG Management Committee.

Freda said, “Sustainability has long been central to how The Estée Lauder Companies and its brands have operated, and it is a key part of our corporate strategy.
“We are committed to continuously evolving to drive our sustainability initiatives forward and helping to innovate and connect at both local and global levels – ultimately positioning us well to succeed in a changing global economy. Appointing Nancy as CSO is an example of our company’s ambition and focus on these initiatives.”
Mahon joined ELC as Vice President, MAC Cosmetics and Executive Director of MAC AIDS Fund (now known as the MAC Viva Glam Fund) in 2006 for philanthropy under this initiative. In recognition of MAC’s proven leadership of this cause, former US President Barack Obama appointed Mahon as Chair of the President’s Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS in 2011.
Appointed Senior Vice President, Global Citizenship and Sustainability in 2014, Mahon has since collaborated with leaders across the board to develop strategies for ELC’s climate and environmental initiatives, with emphasis on energy, emissions, packaging and ingredient traceability.
“Now more than ever, we have a responsibility to help drive progress, and we are dedicated to our sustainability initiatives throughout the value chain,” said William Lauder. “Nancy is a trusted leader with a track record of winning results, and we look forward to her continued success as Chief Sustainability Officer.”
Over the years under Mahon’s leadership, the company has extended its efforts to reduce environmental impacts across operations and throughout the value chain. ELC has focused on addressing climate change through targets to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and implemented strategies to minimise waste generation, disposal and water use. ✈
