SPAIN. Courtesy of Avolta, Solidarity, goodwill, community spirit and a powerful, poignant and enduring memory are at the heart of today’s Images of the Day column, brought to you in association with Duty Free Global.
Avolta recently marked a special edition of the Eugenio Andrades’ Legacy Days, a global charity initiative honouring one of travel retail’s most respected executives, Eugenio Andrades.
Andrades, Avolta’s former Chief Executive Officer Operations, passed away in May 2023 after a long and hugely courageous battle against cancer. At the time, the company (then named Dufry) pledged to establish and name after him a programme to assist disadvantaged young people.
The initiative celebrates his legacy through sport while supporting underprivileged communities.
Held in Barcelona for the first time after previous editions in Madrid, the event brought together children, Avolta volunteers and their families for a morning of sport, inclusion and community connection.
The event was organised in collaboration with Fundación Deporte y Desafío at Oak House School. Five children of Avolta colleagues with disabilities took part, some of whom also benefit from the company’s individualised treatment grants.
Avolta volunteers helped foster an inclusive and engaging environment through activities such as laser tag and tag rugby, highlighting the positive role of sport in building confidence, teamwork and social inclusion.
The company said these initiatives reinforce its commitment to the communities where it operates through meaningful and tangible experiences that encourage participation, support and connection. ✈
