UKRAINE. Ukrainian vodka brand Nemiroff is celebrating after being ranked in the top 20 spirits brands worldwide by the US magazine Impact.
The brand sold 9.36 million cases in 2005, outdoing the internationally renowned Swedish Absolut, which followed with 9.2 million cases, according to Impact’s Top 100 Spirits Brands Worldwide rankings.
Kevin Barry, Impact’s observer, said: “Selling at a price point not too far below Smirnoff in its key markets, Nemiroff’s sales volume has eclipsed Absolut’s. Five years ago, the upstart brand trailed Absolut by nearly 6 million cases.”
Since 2002, the Ukrainian brand has rocketed from 37th place to 16th in the overall ratings.
Two more Ukrainian brands made it to the top 100 spirits brands worldwide this year. For the first time, Soyuz-Victan occupied 27th position with 6.5 million cases sold, and Medoff was 63rd with 3.4 million cases.
Nemiroff said it expects its high ranking to be confirmed in the May issue of the UK’s Drinks International magazine, which will be dedicated to the World Millionaires Club.
Nemiroff produced 9.32 million cases, or more than 166,700,000 bottles of vodka last year in the Ukraine, the world’s third largest vodka market.
Said Yakov Hribov, President of Nemiroff Ukrainian Vodka Company: “The performance results that our company gained in 2005 give us valid reasons to expect that, for the first time in history, a Ukrainian brand will gain a leading position on the international market and will enter the top three international vodka producers, joining such giants as Smirnoff and Stolichnaya. Our principal goal for the future is to make that position stronger and to expand our presence on the world markets, at the same time improving the quality of our presence.”
