BELGIUM. Belgian chocolatier Neuhaus has opened a new airport store in a key Eastern European market and is gearing up to introduce its Prestige Range at the TFWA Asia Pacific exhibition next month.

Following a successful decade of trading at Prague Airport, the company has opened a second store in the new terminal at the Czech Republic facility.

Commenting on the potential of the new outlet, Director International Sales Philip Geeraert said: “We expect double-digit growth, but since some passengers have shifted from the old terminal to the new one, we don’t expect to double our sales.”

Stressing the importance of the Czech market to Neuhaus, he added: “It is very important to Neuhaus to built the Neuhaus business in the former Eastern European countries.”

In other retail news, Neuhaus has gained an enhanced position at Brussels South Station/Gare du Midi.

With the development of the fast train business, Neuhaus is now present in the Eurostar terminal. Explaining the move, Geeraert said: “Since some of the UK business has been shifted to the Eurostar, we believe it is important to strengthen our position.”

Additionally, Neuhaus is also celebrating a new shop opening in Bangkok Airport.

New Prestige range

In product news, Neuhaus will be exhibiting at the TFWA Asia Pacific exhibition next month (Stand number: N20).

A new high-end travel retail pack will be introduced at the Singapore show called the Prestige range, which will replace the Connoisseur range.

The range consists of several items that contain a selection of Neuhaus chocolates in milk, dark, white/all dark/all milk and truffles. The weight will be 200 to 215g.

Each chocolate is wrapped in a paper cup to enhance the quality. Neuhaus said the image is in line with the company’s “respect for tradition, while also taking the future into account”. The product will be introduced during the Autumn 2006.
