NIGERIA. The experience of concession consultants Sypher:Mueller in developing countries has been recognised with the appointment to serve as a policy/strategy advisor for the Federal Ministry of Aviation for Nigeria.
The Nigerian Government is attempting to position itself for globalisation, deregulation, airport improvement and participation of private and foreign investors in various commercial and aviation services.
Ottawa-based Sypher – which has developed the retail planning at major airports such as Seoul Incheon, Seattle, Cairns and Houston Bush Intercontinental – was chosen based on its previous work in other African countries and track record of policy development and strategies for the restructuring of government aviation agencies.
The Nigerian government has requested that Sypher develop traffic projections, review the finances between tenants and airports, review the financial operations and government support, review the institutional framework and relationships of different governmental agencies, and act as advisor regarding privatisation issues.
The project’s main objectives are to reduce government expenditure with private investment and to improve the operations and quality of the country’s airports.
