CANADA. Connoisseur Shop, a duty free specialty store run by The Nuance Group at Vancouver International Airport (YVR), has introduced what is claimed to be the world’s most rare and expensive Cognac, L’Esprit de Courvoisier. The line is priced at C$5,750 a bottle.

A combination of the world’s best Cognacs dating back to the Napoleonic era, L’Esprit de Courvoisier contains a blend of vintages dating from 1803 to the 1930s. It is said to have “a rich and complex bouquet with aromas of hot fruit cake and cinnamon, delicate flavours of old sherry, a hint of coffee beans and the smoke of a fine cigar”. Each bottle is housed in an individually numbered, hand crafted Lalique crystal decanter to reflect its history and rarity.

Connoisseur Shop is the exclusive airport retailer of L’Esprit de Courvoisier within North America. Roberto Roberti, Liquor Specialist for The Nuance Group said: “Connoisseur Shop caters to travellers looking for something distinctive. We offer a number of exclusive products including Louis XIII de Rémy Martin Cognac, Martell L’Or and Chivas Revolve, but L’Esprit de Courvoisier is by far the most extraordinary. To drink this would be a once in a lifetime experience.”

L’Esprit de Courvoisier is the main ingredient in the world’s priciest cocktail, the USD$1,000 ‘You’re Hired’ drink that was served to winners of Donald Trump’s ‘The Apprentice’ at The World Bar in The Trump World Tower in New York. Created for the show and served exclusively at The World Bar, ‘You’re Hired’ is a combination of L’Esprit de Courvoisier, Chateau d’Yquem Sauterne, fresh grape juice, fresh lemon juice, Simple Syrup and Dom Perignon.

Located post-security in international departures, Connoisseur Shop is one of 12 tax and duty free stores at YVR run by The Nuance Group. The store carries an extensive selection of fine wines, rare liquors and imported cigars, and offers daily sampling of wines, scotch, whisky, liqueurs, ice wine, infused oils and special cheeses (but not L’Esprit de Courvoisier).

Christopher Gilliland, Manager Retail Sales and Service Programs at YVR, said: “At YVR we are proud to offer such a unique product. It contributes to our mandate of providing the very best in an airport experience to our travellers.”
