US. The Nuance Group (Chicago), a joint venture between Nuance, The DFASS Group and PMA, MCD, Inc, has opened four Liberty Duty Free stores in Terminals 1, 2 and 3 at Chicago O’Hare International Airport.
The concession has an initial five-year term with an optional extension for two additional years. The concession’s overall value for the initial five years is estimated to be over US$100 million, Nuance said today. The partnership was recommended for the contract by the City of Chicago’s Aviation division last year.

Richard Rendek: looking forward to “offering a great duty free experience” |
Initially, the temporary duty free store operations will comprise over 2,000sq ft (186sq m) of retail space and will offer an assortment of premium liquor, tobacco, cosmetics, fragrances and imported confectionery. The Nuance Group (Chicago) has engaged the Chicago-based architectural firm Shapiro Associates to develop the existing and new duty free retail space. The store development is expected to be completed in 2009.
The retailer said: “The new store design will incorporate the essence of Chicago as well as the modernity required to keep up with the passengers travelling to and through Chicago O’Hare International Airport.”
The Nuance Group North America CEO Richard Rendek commented: “With the addition of Chicago O’Hare International Airport we are pleased to continue our growth in North America and look forward to offering a great duty free experience. I am confident we will be able to add to the award winning customer experience that Chicago is known for, especially once the new store developments are complete.”
The DFASS Group CEO Benny Klepach noted: “We are very excited about initiating duty free operations at Chicago O’Hare International Airport. This concession represents an important new venture for our retail division and further expands our relationship with The Nuance Group.”
