Old Virginia Smooth Honey seeks new markets after Australian launch

Old Virginia Smooth Honey, the brand’s honey-flavoured Bourbon whiskey, is set to be rolled out into more markets following a successful launch in Australia.

The spirit combines Old Virginia Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey and honey, producing a drink that is said to be best enjoyed chilled, over ice or in cocktails.

It was launched last year in Australia, a key market in this category, with 30,000 bottles sold by the end of 2012. Brand owner La Martiniquaise said it will be launched in new markets soon.

“After the success of flavoured vodkas, flavoured Bourbon whiskeys has become one of the fastest-growing spirit categories [in the] last year – led by honey-flavoured whiskeys,” the company added.

Old Virginia joins a number of other major brands to have released honey-flavoured varieties of whiskey, including Jack Daniel’s and Jim Beam.

In addition to this new release, it portfolio is made up of Old Virginia Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 6 Year Old and Old Virginia Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 12 Year Old.
