Origins harnesses plant stem cells to extend Plantscription selection

Raspberry takes centre stage within Origins’ latest Plantscription offering

Origins has extended its Plantscription portfolio with a new Anti-Aging Cream, which features Raspberry Plant Stem Cell Technology, in addition to the collection’s signature anti-ageing ingredient, African Anogeissus. The cream is said to address four major signs of skin ageing, by helping to correct the appearance of lines and wrinkles, lifting, smoothing skin’s texture and reviving bounce.

It is being launched at Origins’ travel retail locations across Asia Pacific and the Americas this month. In addition, Plantscription SPF25 Anti-Aging Cream and Plantscription SPF25 Anti-Aging Oil-Free Cream will be introduced to Europe, the Middle East and Africa from February.

The new Plantscription product contains 300,000 raspberry plant stem cells in every jar. After just four weeks’ use, 83% of panellists using Plantscriptionâ„¢ Anti-Aging cream showed a reduction in the appearance of lines and wrinkles and an improvement in firmness of skin, according to the brand.

Plant stem cells are equipped with regenerative properties, and can “self-renew”. They can either form a large reservoir of unspecialised cells, or upon stimulation grow into “differentiated” plant elements and become a new root, leaf, flower or other part of the plant.

In particular, the red raspberry variety Rubus Idaeus contains a high level of biologically active compounds. The strain was identified in Dei Lombardi, near Avellino on the Apennine Mountains in Italy. In 1980, a major earthquake devastated the small town and destroyed many of the historic Italian homes. After rebuilding brick by brick, a British ex-patriot with a passion for gardening was inspired to plant raspberry bushes. The raspberry plant stem cells used in Plantscription Anti-Aging Cream were extracted from the specific strain in that single garden.

After extraction, the raspberry plant stem cells are grown in culture, before being mechanically crushed in a buffered saltwater solution (with a stabilised pH) to open them up and release their active content. The water soluble extract is the key ingredient within Origins’ Plantscription Anti-Aging Cream.
