Pan Am flies back into European travel retail with Flug zeug

The Pan Am edition of the Flug Zeug belt is officially licensed by Pan Am and available in two colours – blue and black

Austrian fashion label Flug zeug, best known for its accessories made from airline materials, has released a belt officially licensed by Pan Am and added it to products already available at Vienna Airport.

As reported Flug zeug opened a store in the C-Gates shopping area at Vienna International Airport in 2014 and the company is now discussing further growth in the travel retail market. The company’s first product was the Flug zeug belt, a line that it said remains its most popular.

According to Flug zeug, Pan Am, which ceased operations more than 20 years ago, “embodied the jet age like no other airline and was the epitome of stylish flying”.

The Pan Am edition of Flug zeug’s belt is available in two versions: blue with woven-in Pan Am lettering and a plain black belt strap. Both have the Pan Am logo engraved on the aircraft seatbelt buckle. Technically the belts are the same as existing Flug zeug belts, with an airline buckle, a belt strap made of durable seatbelt material and an adjustable waist length (70-140 cm). The belt straps are 3.8cm wide and designed to fit the loops of all trousers.

Flug zeug Founder and Managing Director Andreas Roesler-Schmidt said he was interested in a Pan Am product when he founded the brand three years ago. “We originally created the Flug zeug brand with resemblance to airlines from the golden ‘Jet Age’ in mind and wanted to give it a modernised vintage charm. So we drew on the same love of flying that Pan Am also stood for. The two brands fit together perfectly and create a coherent combination for all those who love that airline design style.”

The Flug zeug brand features bags and sleeves made out of decommissioned life jackets, a necklace made from a life jacket capsule as well as the fashion belt with aircraft buckle in six different colours. “Our brand appeals to people who like individual fashion that makes a strong statement,” Roesler-Schmidt added.
