FRANCE. Paris-Orly Airport’s South Terminal has received a significant upgrade with the inauguration of a 12,000sq m International Pier, which features new retail units.
Airport operator Aéroports de Paris also announced its rebranding to ‘Groupe ADP’, and the creation of a new brand aimed specifically at travellers – ‘Paris Aéroport’ – which it said would be visible to travellers along all stages of the passenger journey.
Paris-Orly’s International Pier features a 300sq m store offering perfumes, wine & spirits and tobacco, a 180sq m Exki bar/restaurant that affords views over the runway, and an 80sq m Relay unit.
There are also a range of passenger services available, including a children’s play area, PS4 game zones, retro gaming arcades, video and multimedia areas with tablets available for public use, and a baby lounge.
Groupe ADP invested approximately €90 million in the new building, which is dedicated to international traffic and long-haul flights to the French West Indies. There are two levels – one for boarding and the other for disembarkation.
The pier was commissioned in response to growing levels of international passenger traffic at the airport, Groupe ADP said. It has the capacity to accommodate 1.9 million passengers per year.
“The new Pier at the South Terminal is the perfect illustration of the new face of the airport. We launched a vast modernisation programme three years ago and this is set to run until 2020,” said Paris-Orly Airport Managing Director Franck Mereyde.
“Our challenge is two-fold. Firstly, to support the development of our airline customers, and long-haul traffic in particular, by offering welcoming, more modern and efficient terminals capable of accommodating widebody aircraft.
“Secondly, we must achieve world-class standards in terms of customer care, comfort and quality of service. We want passengers to enjoy their time in our terminals as much as possible.”
The airport’s modernisation programme has already seen the launch of a number of building projects over the past two years. The South and West Terminal esplanades and approaches were entirely redeveloped in 2014, and the construction of an 80,000sq m building to connect the South and West Terminals, due to be completed in 2019, was started in September 2015.
