Zhuhai Duty Free Group awarded arrivals duty‑free concession at Qingmao Port

CHINA. Zhuhai Duty Free Group has been awarded the arrivals duty‑free concession at Qingmao Port, a key land crossing connecting Zhuhai and Macau.

This marks the retailer’s second concession in the Zhuhai-Macau corridor this year, following Hengqin, and complements its existing Qingmao Port departures duty-free store, which opened in July last year.

The 129sq m store on the third floor sits directly along the passenger thoroughfare, noted the travel retailer. Its opening will enhance the port’s overall commercial amenities and offer travellers between Zhuhai and Macau/Hong Kong a more convenient and diverse duty-free shopping experience, the group added in a statement.

Qingmao Port features a ‘joint customs of two jurisdictions’ operating model, 24-hour operation, smart inspection process and seamless integration with Zhuhai Railway Station. Since its September 2021 opening, it has rapidly developed into a vital border port in the Greater Bay Area, with traffic volume climbing steadily.

The fast-growing port has become a vital connection point in the Greater Bay Area, serving more than 20 million travellers so far this year

From the beginning of this year to 9 July, the number of crossings has reached 20 million, representing an average of 105,000 per day, up 7.4% year‑on‑year. The port’s cumulative traffic has surpassed 100 million since opening.

Recently, the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s 15th Five‑Year Plan for Tourism Development has designated Zhuhai as a key city for inbound tourism and a key node in the national inbound tourism network.

As cross‑border activity intensifies and major port duty‑free layouts mature, Zhuhai Duty Free Group stated it is well-positioned to leverage its network advantages and capture growing inbound travel and cross‑border consumption demand.

Zhuhai Duty Free is building on recent contract gains that include contracts for inbound duty-free shops at Jieyang Chaoshan International Airport, Guilin Liangjiang International Airport (covering both inbound and outbound services), Nanning Wuxu International Airport, Hengqin Port, Manzhouli Road Port, Ganqimaodu Port, Guangzhou Nansha Port and now Qingmao Port.

Its year‑to‑date tally of new business comes to nine port duty‑free stores and one duty‑free daily consumption goods store for local Hainan residents.

“Looking ahead, we will press forward with the Qingmao store and other newly-won projects, while refining our duty‑free network with strengthened product assortment and digital and intelligent operations,” Zhuhai Duty Free Group’s statement added. 🛳️
