Passenger traffic slides by -6.7% at ASUR’s Mexican airports

MEXICO. Passenger traffic at Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste (ASUR) airports in the southeast of Mexico fell by -6.9% in February compared to the same month a year ago, with the figure hitting 1.43 million.

Traffic at the company’s major location, Cancún International Airport, dropped by -5.5% to 1.09 million. Passenger volumes at the second biggest location, Mérida, dipped by -2.6% and there were sharp falls at most other airports.

Domestic volumes fell by -11.6% to 448,858 while international passenger traffic dropped by -4.6% year-on-year to 991,087.

Cancún Airport international traffic fell by -6% in the month to 908,637 passengers, while Cozumel Airport posted growth of +6.2% to 45,475.

ASUR operates the airports of Cancún, Cozumel, Mérida, Oaxaca, Villahermosa, Veracruz, Huatulco, Tapachula and Minatitlán in Mexico’s southeast.
