Perfetti Van Melle aims for Americas success with 2012 novelties

Following a strong growth year in Americas travel retail, with volume up +50% over 2010, Perfetti Van Melle Global Travel Retail returns to the IAADFS Duty Free Show of the Americas with new products for 2012 (Booth 1105).

MENTOS

This year, Perfetti Van Melle (PVM) will be displaying Mentos Jumboroll Fruit Mix, a mixture of strawberry, orange and lemon flavored dragees, and Mentos Jumboroll Mint. Each Jumboroll contains six single rolls.

PVM believes that there is a “˜massive potential’ for chewing gum in travel retail, and 2012 sees a brand new focus on this area with new products which can help drive sales at the cash till point, it said.

At the show PVM will introduce a three-layer duo pack of Mentos chewing gum, in a combination of strawberry, green apple and raspberry flavours.

PVM will also unveil a travel pack containing 10 packs of classic pallet-shaped chewing gum (100 pieces total) in three flavours: spearmint, peppermint and white peppermint.

CHUPA CHUPS

PVM will showcase three Chupa Chups novelties designed to appeal to kids with its fun packaging.

The Binocular is a pair of working binoculars in various colour ways and includes a Chupa Chups lollipop, while the Ballooncar – which comes with two lollipops – has a balloon that kids can blow up to set the race car off.

The Chupa Chups Destination Tin – presented in our unique Moodie Magnifier below – is adorned with various travel-related images and contains 16 different flavoured lollipops.

“The Americas is a very important region for PVM and we have been working hard to set up an efficient distribution structure over the last two years,” said PVM Area Manager Europe & Americas Eric Vermetten.

“In 2012 it should pay off with good distribution in North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean thanks to our four skilled distribution partners in the region or via direct deliveries. Combined with some fantastic new products, which we will be introducing to retailers at the Orlando show, this year should see our business in the Americas really take off.”

PVM is currently supplying airport stores and border stores, but in 2012 it will also look beyond these channels to other areas of opportunity, such as cruiselines.
