P&G Group creates new business unit – 15/07/04

GERMANY. Procter & Gamble (P&G) is to combine the global professional business of Wella, P&G Clairol, Prestige Beauté Fine Fragrances and Cosmopolitan Cosmetics under the leadership of Heiner Gurtler.

Gurtler, currently Wella CEO and President of Global Professional Hair and Cosmopolitan Cosmetics, will assume the title Group President Global Prestige and Professional Care. He will report directly to P&G Chairman, President and Chief Executive A.G. Lafley.

“With the creation of this new business unit, Wella is taking on an increased role within P&G in both of its core competencies — prestige and professional,” commented Gurtler. “This structure will ensure that Wella’s prestige and professional care expertise is preserved and further developed. By taking advantage of both Wella and P&G expertise, there’s plenty of room to grow these businesses.”

Lafley added: “Gurtler’s experience, expertise and knowledge in these businesses are well known. Combining the Wella and P&G prestige fragrance and the Wella and Clairol professional hair care businesses under his leadership provides exciting growth potential for the future.”

In related moves, Carsten Fischer, currently Executive Vice President Wella Professional, America/Asia/Pacific, has been named President Professional Care, and will continue to report to Gurtler. Hartwig Langer, currently Vice President Global Fine Fragrances, has been appointed President Prestige Products. Langer will report to Gurtler and will be located in Geneva.
