QATAR. Qatar Duty Free is preparing for a big expansion of its shopping facilities at Doha International Airport later this year.
Qatar Duty Free Assistant General Manager Krishna Kumari told The Moodie Report in Doha this week: “There are going to be exciting new brands coming in as we push back [an existing wall] to create new space.”
She added: “We’re expanding the perfume and cosmetics area and will also increase the luxury watches area as well as that for fashion. We’ll also have a much- increased promotional area.”
Fast-growing Greek jewellery and accessories brand Folli Follie will be introduced as will more fashion watches. Other highlights will see a customized Chanel pillar, a nail bar and much more customization of the jewellery area.
Qatar Duty Free has been one of the booming Middle East region’s most outstanding success stories over recent years. In a well-received presentation at last December’s MEDFA conference Krishna Kumari reported that airport sales had grown +70% year-on-year, while inflight sales for Qatar Airways had leapt by +47%. That momentum has continued unabated since.
She paid tribute to Qatar Duty Free Operations Retail Manager Kevin Farrow for his role in the airport success. “From a Qatar Airways point of view he understands our requirements and has helped grow this business,” she said.
