1988 Vintage Premier Cru |
FRANCE. Rémy Martin has unveiled two additions to its selection of Grande Champagne Cognacs. The Premier Cru Cognacs will be available exclusively from selected travel retail and duty free outlets.
Rémy Martin 1988 Vintage Premier Cru is a limited-edition Grande Champagne Cognac from the harvest of a single year. 1988 was a year of extreme weather conditions in Cognac with particularly heavy rainfall resulting in an unusually small harvest.
The Rémy Martin cellar master selected just four lots of eaux-de-vie out of 1,000 and set them aside. Rémy Martin has chosen to release this rare 1988 Vintage at the point it reached 45% alcohol – after 18 years in Limousin oak casks.
“This ensures that the opulence, the harmony and the length create the optimum aromatic intensity,” said the company.
The Cognac is golden amber in colour and is said to offer rich brioche-like aromas of intense vanilla, baked tart and ripe peaches and pears. It retails at the equivalent of €200.
The second new release is Rémy Martin VSOP Premier Cru, also made exclusively from grapes from the Grande Champagne area. Rémy Martin is the worldwide leader in VSOP and this enables the brand to reinforce its premier position in the category, the company said.
Offering aromas of concentrated vanilla, dried apricots and intense jasmine, Rémy Martin VSOP Premier Cru is multi-layered in texture and lingers on the palate. Luminous amber in tone, it is described as a perfectly balanced yet intense Cognac.
The presentations
The bottle designed for Rémy Martin 1988 Vintage Premier Cru is full bodied with a slender shoulder and elongated neck creating an elegant silhouette. Closed with a wooden capped cork, the top is hand dipped in wax to create a seal.

The gift box is warm red complemented by the deep green of the label and contains a glossy leaflet to illustrate its origins.
Rémy Martin VSOP Premier Cru has strong gold branding on the neck and label with rich red detail reinforcing the premium positioning of the Premier Cru range.
Product information on the black and gold gift box provides consumers with insight into the Rémy Martin brand and the Cognac.
Since the first placements appeared on shelf in Asia Pacific and Europe in January, the two products have received excellent consumer response, according to the house, in line with the favourable reactions to their predecessor, Rémy Martin XO Premier Cru, which was relaunched in November 2006 in new packaging after ten successful years on the market.
Pascale Dubos, Trade Category Manager Global Travel Retail, said: “The travel retail channel is excellent as a vitrine for our high quality lines; we cater to the demands of this discerning customer base by offering innovative products which make excellent gifts and perfect excuses to try something which is new and exciting but from a supplier with an established pedigree.”
*Rémy Cointreau will be exhibiting on the Maxxium stand at IAADFS Duty Free Show of the Americas (Booth 1603) in Fort Lauderdale next month and at TFWA Asia Pacific in Singapore in May.
