KENYA. Safari Duty Free, one of Africa’s leading travel retailers, has been awarded the exclusive contract to manage and operate the Kenya Airways inflight duty-free retail programme for a five-year period commencing 1 November.
The appointment, confirmed by Kenya Airways in documentation sighted by The Moodie Davitt Report, follows a competitive international evaluation process involving three inflight retail concessionaires.
Under the agreement, Safari Duty Free, with the help of its partners, will assume responsibility for the end-to-end management of Kenya Airways’ inflight duty-free retail programme.
The remit includes brand partnerships, product curation, merchandising, digital retail integration, and customer experience delivery.
Safari Duty Free said the partnership represents a milestone in its development and further strengthens its position as one of Africa’s leading travel retailers.

With more than 24 years’ experience in duty-free retail, Safari Duty Free currently operates ten stores across East and Southern Africa, including enterprises in Kenya, Mozambique, Zambia and Uganda plus a diplomatic duty-free store in Maputo, Mozambique.
Locations include airport departures, inflight, land border, seaport and diplomatic duty free.
Kenya Airways continues to pursue an ambitious growth strategy. The airline plans to expand its fleet from 32 aircraft to approximately 67 while increasing annual passenger numbers from approximately six million to nine million in the next four years in line with increased capacity.
The carrier serves 45 destinations worldwide, including more than 37 destinations across Sub-Saharan Africa, providing an important platform for international brands seeking to strengthen their presence in one of travel retail’s fastest-growing regions.

Safari Duty Free Managing Director Vivek Mehra said, “We are honoured by the confidence Kenya Airways has placed in Safari Duty Free. This partnership represents an important milestone for our company and reinforces our long-term commitment to delivering world-class travel retail experiences across Africa.
“We look forward to working closely with Kenya Airways and with leading international brands to develop an innovative inflight retail programme that reflects the airline’s ambition, enhances the passenger experience and supports the continued growth of travel retail across the continents.” ✈
