TURKEY. Setur Duty Free has reported a strong start to its new business at Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen Airport’s new international terminal, where the company’s retail stores began trading on 9 November. And in related news, the group has won the sole rights to operate duty free at Bodrum Milas Airport following a recent tender.
At Sabiha Gökçen Setur has opened an initial 1,500sq m of core duty free retail space in Departures, plus 600sq m of shop-in-shops housing watches, jewellery, sunglasses and accessories. Among the brands on show in this area are Montblanc, Omega, TAG Heuer, Maurice Lacroix, Baume Mercier, Tissot, Swarovski, Vakko, Swatch, Pilgrim, Zeades, Kipling and Haremlique. The company also has around 1,250sq m of space in Arrivals.

Setur told The Moodie Report that passenger numbers had surged ahead of the previous year since the terminal opened, driven partly by additional Turkish Airlines flights (now seven international flights a week). Spend per passenger and average spend have also shown dramatic increases in the new space, the retailer said. Setur had previously operated at the old terminal since June 2008. The company has a 20-year concession for the business.

The company also announced that it has been selected as the sole duty free concessionaire at Bodrum Milas Airport, following a tender called by the General Directorate of the State Airports Authority (DHMI). A new terminal is planned at Milas, which is part of the continuing wave of privatisation of Turkey’s state-owned airport assets.
