Skross unveils an all-encompassing Tech for Travellers ecosystem

Swiss travel-related technology brand Skross has launched a redesigned Tech for Travellers ecosystem.

Skross, owned by WorldConnect, said the new offering is more than a product range, representing a comprehensive portfolio of connected travel solutions designed around one simple idea – making every journey safer, simpler and more enjoyable.

They are often far away from home, operating in unfamiliar environments and depending on their devices more than ever. At those moments, reliability matters,” he says.

Skross has focused exclusively on the needs of travellers for almost a quarter-century, describing itself as the only brand dedicated entirely to creating technology solutions specifically designed for people on the move.

From travel adapters and chargers to power banks, cables and travel accessories, every product within the Tech for Travellers ecosystem serves a specific purpose within the travel journey.

“When a traveller reaches for a Skross product, they expect it to work — simply, safely and without compromise,” the company said.

This commitment is embodied in what Skross dubs its ‘SSS philosophy’ – Safe. Simple. Swiss. Every product is designed to remove complexity, eliminate uncertainty and provide dependable performance wherever in the world the journey leads, the company noted.

“Our ambition goes far beyond creating chargers, power banks or accessories,“ said Skross Co-CEO Sam Gerber. “We design technology specifically for travellers. Every product has a role within a broader travel ecosystem and is developed to solve real travel challenges.

“When people travel, emotions are involved. They are often far away from home, operating in unfamiliar environments and depending on their devices more than ever. At those moments, reliability matters. Travellers choose Skross because they trust us to keep them connected when it matters most.”

A cornerstone of the Skross promise is its Swiss Warranty. Regardless of where a consumer lives or where a product was purchased, Skross stands behind every product worldwide.

In the event of a product failure, the brand will replace or reimburse the customer, providing travellers with peace of mind wherever their journey takes them.

The Tech for Travellers ecosystem builds on Skross’ strong reputation for quality, intelligent design, safety standards and ease of use, extending these values across an expanded range of travel technology solutions.

By bringing chargers, power banks, cables, adapters and travel accessories together under one integrated concept, SKROSS said it is offering retailers a unique one-stop-shop solution and enabling consumers to build a complete travel technology setup from a single trusted brand.

Skross: The Backstory

When Walter Ruffner, Swiss owner of a plastics injection moulding company and passionate inventor, visited the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, he couldn’t find a single travel adapter in the city suited to the Swiss plug (Type J) despite intensive searching and what he called “absolute necessity”.

Returning home, he vowed to develop a travel adapter which could be used worldwide. Using the first production samples of the World Adapter Classic, Ruffner visited numerous trade fairs without making much progress,

However, a chance meeting in Basle, in September 2001 with sales professional Sam Gerber, then working for Californian technology accessories company Targus, started to change everything,

Ruffner, responsible for R&D, patents and production, brought his brother Markus and Christian Schnell in as Co-Founders of newco WorldConnect, today the owner of the Skross brand name. Gerber joined in 2002, becoming Co-CEO in 2003,

The fledgling company’s first product, the World Adapter Classic, quickly developed into a worldwide sales hit with exports into more than 60 countries. In 2008, Walter Ruffner had the idea for the first 3-pin, earthed and super-compact World Adapter, which was called PRO.

Today, Skross is represented in more than 100 countries and its products are available at more than 10,000 points of sale worldwide. In travel retail it enjoys an expansive presence globally.

In 2018, Walter Ruffner sold his relevant patents to WorldConnect, which two years later became part of Italian company Cellularline Group, a leading player in the accessories market for smartphones and mobile devices.
