South Korean agreement with EU Commission on duty free LAGs is suspended indefinitely – 18/06/09

SOUTH KOREA/EU. The EU’s agreement with South Korea over the carriage of duty free liquids, aerosols and gels (LAGs) has been suspended indefinitely.

The agreement, which was due to come into force at the end June, would have allowed passengers from South Korea to transfer flights in Europe without having to surrender their liquid purchases made in airport duty free shops in South Korea.

The European Travel Retail Council said that difficulties had arisen in the bilateral negotiations between the EU and South Korea on aviation matters, causing the suspension of this agreement.

ETRC said: “Despite the fact that the legislation has already been published in the Official Journal of the European Union, it will not be enacted as scheduled. ETRC is obviously very disappointed by this move and hopes that the matter can be resolved as quickly as possible.”
