INTERNATIONAL. Here’s your latest chance to win a great prize in our Strange Predictions* contest hosted by Strange Nature Gin of New Zealand. And we also announce the winner of our latest contest.
This weekend we again turn our attention to men’s rugby with two epic matches: the first set to take place in Edinburgh between the currently very bonny Scotland team and the All Blacks of New Zealand; the second, a battle of the titans between France and Rugby World Champions South Africa in Paris (at present the two best teams in the world).
We’re asking travel retail and aviation sector sporting pundits to pick the winners and scores of these epic match-ups.
As with all our Strange Predictions competitions, the winner will receive a bottle of the outstanding Strange Nature Gin, whose spirit base is drawn from Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Strange indeed.
As reported, Strange Nature was recently named one of the ten 2024 Gins of the Year at the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition.
Here are the prediction challenges:
- Pick the winner of each match (or a draw): Scotland vs All Blacks; France vs South Africa
- Pick the scoreline for each match
- Name which island of New Zealand Strange Nature from Marlborough comes from (Clue: The answer is North, South or Stewart).
Rules:
- Only entries from bona-fide members of the travel retail and aviation community will be accepted.
- The winner will be judged first on correctly predicting the result (win/loss/draw) in each match after which those qualifying will be assessed on cumulative points differential for each game. So if, say, Scotland (for the first-ever time, and quite possible) beats the All Blacks 31-24 and you predicted the Scots to win 30-18 you would have a points differential of 7.
- Only entries from bona-fide members of the travel retail and aviation community will be accepted.
- Judge’s decision is final.
Send your estimate to: Martin@MoodieDavittReport.com headed ‘Strange Predictions – Autumn Series’ before kick-off of the first match (Scotland vs All Blacks, 15:10 GMT) on Saturday 8 November.

And the winner is…
Last time out we asked contestants to predict the results of two rugby matches
- The Autumn internationals, England vs Australia and Ireland vs All Blacks
- The scores were: England 25 – Australia 7; and Ireland 13 – All Blacks 26
Our winner was an Englishman with strong Kiwi connections (members of his family live in Auckland) based in Arizona and working for Ontario International Airport, California.
That can only mean travel retail and aviation sector veteran (of the youthful kind) Dan Cappell, who raced away with the spoils, thanks to a superbly close 15-28 prediction on the Ireland v All Blacks match and a decent England 22 – Australia 16 stab at the second match.

Dan headed off another much-respected industry figure, Sydney-based VP Growth for CAVU (Manchester Airports Group) Craig Pring.
Craig was followed by WePurple partners Alex Cook and Lucy Hillyard (who for once bet against her beloved Aussies and… we can exclusively reveal, hoped for an All Blacks victory for the first and no doubt last time in her life); and Dublin-based ARI Global Corporate Finance Lead John Wallace (who rightly plumped for the All Blacks to beat Ireland; don’t worry your secret is safe with us, John).
Congratulations, Dan, a fine bottle of Strange Nature will be winging its way to Arizona soon.
*Strange PredictionsStrange Nature, the quirky super-premium New Zealand gin from Marlborough, which has gained impressive traction in travel retail and selected local markets since its launch in October 2021, is partnering with The Moodie Davitt Report in a pioneering readers’ competition called Strange Predictions. The year-round programme features a series of predictive contests designed to test readers’ punditry skills across a myriad of events, ranging from sporting contests to political elections and other intriguing – and sometimes strange – events. Strange Nature General Manager – Owner Rhys Julian said: “At Strange Nature we like to embrace the strange. We consider our gin to be stranger than most, considering its grape origins, one botanical as well as sustainability and traceability credentials. “Therefore, in fitting with the brand we thought partnering with The Moodie Davitt Report’s Strange Predictions was a perfect fit. A fun competition for everyone, slightly left of centre, is very much our vibe.” |
