The new Pier B store rounds off the Arrivals duty free offer |
AUSTRALIA. Sydney Airport and Heinemann Duty Free have opened the second new Arrivals duty free store in the International Terminal (T1) as part of a major improvement programme. The investment in space will “deliver a world-class airport experience for passengers” according to the airport.
The new store in Pier B showcases an extensive range of fragrances, cosmetics, wine, spirits and confectionery. It was designed by Gebr Heinemann’s in-house design team in collaboration with leading Australian architectural firm Geyer.
The revised store layout includes larger orientation zones with wider, more direct pathways and improved wayfinding for passengers. It follows the opening of Heinemann’s Pier C Arrivals store in July, and completes the Arrivals duty free store offering at Sydney Airport.
“The launch of the second new Arrivals duty free store in T1 further strengthens the compelling duty free offering that Heinemann brings to Sydney Airport,” said Sydney Airport General Manager, Retail Glyn Williams.
“On completion, the Heinemann duty free offering at Sydney Airport will deliver first-to-airport brands and unique in-store concepts providing an exceptional passenger experience, with all six stores expected to be completed and open by mid-2016 [see timeline below -Ed].”
Gebr Heinemann will deliver “a compelling duty free offer” once its store investment is completed by mid-2016, says Sydney Airport |
Commenting on the duty free business as Sydney Airport revealed its first-half results last month, Sydney Airport Managing Director Kerrie Mather said Heinemann’s sales were “in line with expectations” to date. She said “the full benefits” of the store investment would be realised from mid-2016.
Mather added that the new contract, which began on 17 February, was on “improved terms” for Sydney Airport. On the offer, she noted: “In 2015 and 2016 Heinemann will introduce a new and innovative duty free experience. They are bringing in 400 new brands and will add online shopping, mobile shopping and a new digital App.”
