Tito’s Handmade Vodka has been named Spirit Brand/Distiller of the Year at Wine Enthusiast magazine’s Wine Star Awards.
“We are excited to receive such a high honour from such an elite brand,” said Tito Beveridge, Founder and Master Distiller of Tito’s Handmade Vodka. “It’s been an incredible ride, having started this thing on my own back in 1995 when there was no such thing as an American craft distillery. No one thought it could be done, but here we are. It’s just thrilling.”
Tito’s Handmade Vodka was founded in 1997 when Bert “Tito” Beveridge, a one-time geophysicist, obtained the first legal permit to distill in Texas. Tito distills his corn-based vodka six times in old-fashioned pot stills, the first of which he built himself.
This entrepreneurial and humble beginning of Tito’s Handmade Vodka, which reportedly sparked a craft spirits revolution and opened the door for hundreds of micro distilleries around the country, has been highlighted in an essay on the Wine Enthusiast website.
“Tito was instrumental in helping to create the craft spirit category,” said Wine Enthusiast Magazine Editor and Publisher Adam Strum. “The company has helped grow the premium spirits business and bring serious awareness to the category worldwide.”
