UK. TRG Concessions (TRGC) has unveiled a wagamama restaurant at Birmingham Airport as the concessionaire celebrates 35 years as one of the UK’s leading travel hospitality operators.

The 180-seat outlet is located airside in a redeveloped space between Gates 1-20 and the main departure lounge.

It combines the brand’s Asian-inspired menu with a contemporary interior that complements the modern airport environment.

Menu highlights include the restaurant’s bestsellers such as chicken katsu curry, yaki soba and ramen dishes, complemented by a breakfast menu that blends traditional Full English to lighter Japanese-inspired options.

The opening builds on TRGC’s long-standing partnership with wagamama, following the recent launch of wagamama ‘on the move’ at Heathrow Terminal 5 – the brand’s premium grab-and-go concept developed specifically for airport travellers.

TRGC said the continued collaboration reflects its commitment to investing in innovative, experience-led food & beverage concepts across key UK travel hubs.

The launch also aligns with TRGC’s 35th anniversary in airport hospitality, a journey that began in 1991.

Since then, the company has expanded to 39 hospitality locations across nine UK airports, including 22 franchise restaurants and 17 proprietary concepts, with a workforce of more than 2,000 colleagues from 57 nationalities.

TRGC has four more openings planned as it advances into its next chapter under new owner Areas.

As reported in July, Areas recently swooped to acquire The Restaurant Group’s Concessions division, which manages an extensive airport portfolio in the UK.

As part of the global group, TRGC will benefit from a broad international network, enhanced operational capabilities and a wider portfolio of brands to support its continued expansion.

TRGC CEO Jonathan Knight said: “Opening wagamama at Birmingham Airport is another exciting milestone in our long-standing partnership with the brand and further strengthens our commitment to bringing high-quality dining experiences to travellers across the UK.

“It’s particularly fitting that this opening comes as we celebrate 35 years of airport hospitality, while also looking ahead to an exciting new chapter with Areas that will allow us to continue our expansion and enhance our offering to UK travel hub partners and customers.”

Wagamama SVP Franchise + Partnerships International Francisco Neves added: “We’re so excited to be bringing wagamama to Birmingham Airport and welcoming travellers to a little taste of wagamama before they take off.

“We know how much our guests love discovering fresh, delicious food wherever their journey takes them, and this new opening gives us another fantastic opportunity to share the wagamama experience with even more people.”

Birmingham Airport Commercial Director Richard Gill commented: “wagamama is a great addition to our restaurant offerings at Birmingham Airport, arriving just as we welcome a busy wave of summer travellers heading off on their holidays.

“It’s a brand our passengers know and love, and its arrival brings even more choice, while strengthening the range of high-quality food and drink in the terminal throughout the day.” ‍
