TRI-POD Series 2: In conversation with Syama Nair of Brown-Forman

This episode of TRI-POD, The Moodie Davitt Report video podcast series in association with The SEVA Group, features Brown-Forman Area Manager, India, Middle East and Africa Travel Retail Syama Nair, a dynamic and charismatic executive who has worked in the channel since 2005.

Syama chats with co-hosts Roger Jackson of The SEVA Group and Martin Moodie about her life and career journey to date. Born and raised in Bombay (Mumbai), Syama moved to Dubai in 2005 where she joined Diageo and has been in travel retail ever since. After a brief spell with premium chocolate house Godiva, she joined Brown-Forman in February 2021 and hasn’t looked back since.

A wide-ranging discussion takes in the subject of International Women’s Day and how the drinks sector – historically male-dominated – has evolved in terms of equality. Syama has warm words of praise for Brown-Forman in this regard but says much still needs to be done elsewhere in the industry.

We also take Syama to our resident TRI-POD desert island. Find out what dramtastic duty free treats she would take there; what music she would listen to; which three guests she would invite to a select private dinner; and what reading matter she would enjoy [Clue: What great humorist wrote the following lines?].

On male inadequacy

At the age of eleven or thereabouts women acquire a poise and an ability to handle difficult situations which a man, if he is lucky, manages to achieve somewhere in the later seventies.

On golf

Men capable of governing empires fail to control a small white ball, which presents no difficulties whatsoever to others with one ounce more brain than a cuckoo clock.
