Vienna traffic begins to waltz

AUSTRIA. Vienna International Airport operator Flughafen Wien said today that passenger traffic rose +2.3% year-on-year in June, due to a general recovery from a slump caused by SARS and the war in Iraq.

The airport handled 1,195,627 passengers in June, a return to growth after three months of decline.

“The increase in passenger traffic in June at + 2.3% signals a general recovery in aviation,” the airport operator said.

The number of transfer passengers fell -3.7% to 369,984 compared with last year, which the airport said was due to a temporary cancellation of direct flights to Beijing and a reduction in long-haul flights.

January to June passenger traffic was up +3.1% from the same period last year.
