USA. Leading travel retailer WHSmith North America has celebrated the achievements of three executives recognised at the Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC) 2026 Catalyst Awards.
The company’s honorees include: Alea Rocque – Advocate of the Year; Roderick McOwan – Hall of Fame; and Star Somilleda – Supplier Leadership Award.
One of the aviation industry’s most prestigious recognitions, the Catalyst Awards honour individuals who have demonstrated leadership, advocacy and dedication to creating opportunities across the airport and transportation sectors.
The annual awards also celebrate individuals and organisations whose contributions have advanced AMAC’s mission and strengthened growth, innovation and inclusion throughout the industry.

WHSmith North America CEO Huw Crwys-Williams said, “We are incredibly proud to see Alea, Roddy and Star recognised by AMAC for their leadership, dedication and impact.
“Each has helped shape a stronger, more inclusive future for our industry through mentorship, advocacy, supplier engagement and a steadfast commitment to creating opportunities for others. Their achievements exemplify the values that drive WHSmith North America every day.”
Vice President of Business Development Alea Rocque was named Advocate of the Year in recognition of her commitment to mentorship and industry advancement, helping emerging businesses and professionals navigate opportunities in airport concessions and travel retail.

Her contributions have fostered stronger connections across the aviation community while inspiring the next generation of leaders.

Honouring industry leaders whose contributions have left a lasting impact, the Hall of Fame Award was presented to Chief Development Officer Roderick McOwan as he concluded a distinguished four-decade career dedicated to advancing diversity, supplier development and opportunities for small and disadvantaged businesses.
The Supplier Leadership Award recognised Director for Strategic Partnerships Star Somilleda’s outstanding contributions to supplier diversity and partnership development. Through her work with nearly 100 joint-venture partners, she has helped expand inclusive business opportunities and enhance the participation of diverse suppliers across the industry.
The awards were presented during the 2026 AMAC Airport Business Conference (10-14 June), attended by airport executives, concessionaires, developers, suppliers and government agencies from across North America.
The conference also marked the appointment of Devon Ray as Chair of the AMAC Catalyst Awards. She will lead the selection committee, oversee the nomination review process and uphold the programme’s commitment to recognising excellence in diversity and inclusion across the aviation industry.
Ray will focus on strengthening the programme by promoting integrity, transparency and streamlined processes.
In addition, WHSmith North America served as the National Sponsor of AMAC’s Runway to Success (RTS) programme during this year’s conference, becoming the first concessionaire to support the small business initiative.
WHSmith North America Chief Development Officer Yasmin Sheriff was among the judges for the RTS Final Pitch Competition. The multi-city, tournament-style programme provides suppliers with mentorship, industry exposure and opportunities to grow their presence in the airport food and retail industry. ✈
