Airports have a key role to play in championing a city’s or country’s craft, culture, tastes and traditions. For visitors they offer the first and last impression of the locality, for that city’s citizens they provide a source of civic pride. An arts & culture programme connects passengers to a place in the same way an airport connects them to the world. Many airport companies embrace that role with pride and passion. Our new series, in association with Denizen Destination*, offers a regular showcase of airports as ‘artports’.
ZURICH AIRPORT – ELEPHANT PARADE SWISS EDITION 2024
SWITZERLAND. Visitors to Zurich Airport will encounter 40 colourful elephant sculptures in the coming weeks. The works of art are making their first appearance of a tour around Switzerland, known as ‘Elephant Parade Swiss Edition 2024’.
The initiators aim to draw attention to the situation of endangered elephants with the travelling exhibition. Proceeds support projects that protect Asian elephants and their habitat.

From this month until 1 April, the 40 sculptures can be found spread around Zurich Airport’s Circle zone, which links directly to the airport. They are also on show from viewing terrace B and in busy airport passenger areas, including close to shops and food & beverage outlets.
Airport shoppers have the opportunity to buy small figures of the various elephants in participating stores as a means of contributing to the project.

The exhibition is hosted by the agency Events in Motion by Claudia Knie and includes work by artists such as Phil Collins, Paul Roberts, Paul Smith and Romero Britto as well as talents from across Switzerland including Drüegg and Momo. ✈
