ALFA Brands has unveiled new packaging for Jelly Belly jelly beans to coincide with The Ant Bully, a major animated feature film from Warner Brothers |
US. Duty free agent ALFA Brands has introduced new packaging for Jelly Belly jelly beans to coincide with a major animated feature film from Warner Brothers titled The Ant Bully, which is hitting cinema screens worldwide this August.
“Jelly Belly jelly beans will enjoy placement within the movie itself, coupled with promotional packaging and a lot of Hollywood hoopla,” said ALFA Brands Operations Manager Amy Hildreth.
The film is produced by Tom Hanks and the voices of the insect characters are provided by top stars such as Julia Roberts, Nicholas Cage and Meryl Streep.
Key scenes in the movie have the ants in search of Jelly Belly jelly beans, but since ants can’t read they call them “sweet rocks”.
Jelly Belly has created a special collection of “sweet rocks” in movie promotional packaging. The 20-flavour assortment includes Jelly Belly favourites such as Watermelon and Very Cherry, mixed with movie-inspired flavours of Ant Hill, Alka Root, Lawn Clippings and Caterpillar.
All the flavours come packaged in 1.6oz boxes with The Ant Bully graphics. ALFA Brands will be shipping from June in 24-count caddies for the counter and in a 144-count shippe display.
A DVD release of the movie will be available by the end of the year, when further product developments will be made, according to Hildreth.

In other Jelly Belly news, ALFA Brands has unveiled the new Smoothie Blend, featuring five creamy fruit flavours: Strawberry/Banana, Pineapple/Pear, Cherry/Passion Fruit, Mandarin Orange/Mango and Mixed Berry. Natural ingredients are used, such as real fruit juices and purees.
In addition, the Sport Beans range of energising jelly beans, targeted at professional, amateur and aspiring athletes, have been joined by two new flavours: Fruit Punch, said to be bold and juicy, and Berry Blue, “brisk and refreshing”. They join the existing Orange and Lemon Lime flavours.
Also, new display options have been introduced for Sport Beans Energizing Jelly Beans. The countertop caddy for each of the four flavours of Sport Beans jelly beans has been reconfigured to have two facings of the 1oz in a 24-count caddy.
Commented Hildreth: “The brilliant colours of the flavours and boxes have a dramatic presence on the shelf or counter when combined into a display.”
Also available now from ALFA Brands are new 12-count Sport Bean Clip Strips in the two new flavours of Berry Blue and Fruit Punch. They can be used with the existing Clip Strips for Lemon Lime and Orange flavours to offer the full line of Sport Bean flavours.
