UK. Alpha Inflight Retail has won the purchasing agreement onboard leading UK charter carrier MyTravel Airways UK.
MyTravel Airways UK runs its own inflight retail operations and Alpha will handle purchasing only. The contract was previously held by British Airways Enterprises.
It is another strong gain for Alpha, whose business has performed impressively in the past 12 months.
Founded in 1991, MyTravel Airways UK carried just under 6.2 million passengers last year, of whom 65% were intra-EU, according to Generation DataBank. Duty free sales in 2002 reached £9.0 million (US$14.9 million) with luxury and gift items making up 36.4% of the business and fragrances and cosmetics 35.3%. Bar sales generated an additional £9.0 million.
