Áreas opens Spain’s first airport Japanese restaurant at Madrid Barajas

SPAIN. Food & beverage concessionaire Ãreas has opened what it claims is the first Japanese restaurant at a Spanish airport, with the arrival of Kirei by Kabuki at Madrid Barajas Airport.

Located in Terminal 4, the restaurant features a range of high-quality Japanese cuisine fused with Mediterranean ingredients.

Chef Ricardo Sanz of the Kabuki group, the adviser of the five existing Kabuki locations in Madrid and Tenerife, is advising Ãreas, ensuring continuity in the style and quality of the Michelin star-winning restaurants.

Kirei by Kabuki offers options for diners who have time to be seated and those on the go

The opening is part of Ãreas’ project to revamp the culinary offering at Madrid Barajas Airport. The concessionaire is responsible for 47 F&B outlets, covering 17,270sq m, and is committed to investing €25 million over 10 years – during which time it anticipates turnover of €1.48 billion.

Ãreas has invested €290,000 and spent two months getting Kirei by Kabuki ready. The company said the restaurant has various service models tailored to all types of travellers. These include a wide-ranging menu for those who have the time and would like to be seated, as well as a sushi bar.

It also has a takeaway service offering freshly prepared sushi and sashimi to enjoy on the plane. The average price of a meal in the restaurant is around €40, while a “to go” menu ranges from €11 to €23.

Its service revolves around “˜show cooking’ by a “˜sushi man’, with meals prepared in front of the customer. The dishes include a wide range of Japanese specialities typically found at a sushi bar, with classic recipes for nigiri, sashimi, creams, soups and vegetables.
