HUNGARY. Budapest Airport handled 744,185 passengers in May, a +5.5% increase on the same month in 2005, the airport operator BAA reported.
For the 12 months to May 2006, total passenger traffic reached 8.277 million – a +15.7% year-on-year rise.
The number of transfer passengers grew by +14.7% in May, to 134,038. This represents a +27.0% upswing year-on-year, accounting for 18.4% of all passengers, BAA said.
The number of passengers travelling by no-frills airlines reached 199,242, a -5.2% fall on May 2005. But in the year ending May 2006, Budapest handled more than 2.278 million low-cost passengers, +35.2% up on the previous year.
The number of air transport movements in May 2006 edged ahead by +2.1%, to 11,515. In the 12 months to May 2006, Budapest handled 126,925 movements, up +4.4% on last time.
