Blue Caterpillar Area Sales Manager South America Eimhin Prendergast is taking on an ambitious endurance fund-raising challenge in memory of his mother Catherine, who passed away in April following a four-year battle with cancer. He is seeking support from the travel retail community as the challenge on 13-15 August draws near.
Over just 48 hours, Eimhin, who hails from Limerick, Ireland and is based in Buenos Aires, Argentina for Blue Caterpillar, will climb the highest peaks in Ireland (Carrauntoohil), Scotland (Ben Nevis), England (Scafell Pike) and Wales (Snowdon).
His fund-raising will benefit two charities. One is the Limerick-based Mid-Western Cancer Foundation, which provides much-needed care for patients and support for their loved ones.
Eimhin noted that the charity does “incredible work on a volunteer basis for those battling cancer, and for the families who have lost a loved one to cancer. Unfortunately my family falls into both of these categories, as my Dad was diagnosed with cancer a few weeks before my Mom passed away.”
The other organisation is gardening charity the Royal Horticultural Society of Ireland (RHSI) in Bellefield, County Offaly.
Taking up the story, Eimhin said, “When my Mom was first diagnosed with cancer in early 2022, the RHSI at Bellefield became her happy place where she could do what she loved most: using her green fingers in the garden. It gave her many a happy memory, so I would like to give something back to them in return.”
To date, the charity drive that began with a target of €5,000 has raised close to €16,000, with a renewed goal of €18,000. Eimhin said he would be thrilled if this figure could even reach €20,000 by the time of the peak challenge.
Eimhin is supported on the fund-raising drive by his father Eoghan and sisters Grace and Anna; Grace is also joining him on the peak challenge.
He told The Moodie Davitt Report, “I have been blown away by the support I have received. We have a strong family motivation to complete this challenge, and we would love to have any support that the travel retail industry worldwide can provide.”
