Copenhagen Airport traffic numbers dip on leap year effect

DENMARK. Passenger numbers at Copenhagen Airport fell by -1.6% to 1.59 million in February – but the decline was attributed to the fact that 2012 was a leap year.

Adjusted for the lack of the 29th day of February this year, passenger figures for the month actually represent a +2.0% increase.

“If we look at the first two months of the year, the number of international passengers grew by +1.1%, which is in line with our expectations,” said Copenhagen Airport CEO Thomas Woldbye.

“Domestic traffic continues to be substantially below last year’s level, which underlines that Danish domestic routes still need to be strengthened, partly by adding more frequencies,” Woldbye added.

The airport said that its two latest February records were in 2008 and 2012, which were both leap years.
