Denver unveils new video towers in dramatic digital advertising drive

USA. Clear Channel Airports and Denver International Airport have unveiled four 26-foot LED video towers at the airport – described as the largest such displays at a US airport.

The towers are the centrepieces of a major installation of digital technology by Clear Channel throughout the airport, which is the fifth busiest in the country. The advertising concessionaire has a new ten-year contract with the airport.

“The video towers are the largest digital displays currently in any US airport,” said Denver International Airport’s Chief Commercial Officer John Ackerman.

“More than 50 million annual passengers will see beautifully designed messages and advertising that inspire their imaginations for experiences, products and services found in Denver and around the world. We are very pleased to collaborate with Clear Channel Airports on this programme which will significantly increase non-airline revenue and help reduce costs for our airline partners.”

In addition to the four 26-foot diagonal LED video towers formed around the Great Hall elevator columns, the installation plan includes more than 118 LCD screens throughout the airport, 70-inch freestanding LCDs throughout level six of Jeppesen Terminal, and six post-security overhead video walls in the A, B, and C concourses. Denver International Airport will soon have one of the largest digital footprints of any North American airport.

The digital installation includes a number of innovations, such as the replacement of existing hotel phone boards located in the baggage claim area with touchscreens that can send hotel, restaurant and other travel information to mobile devices. The touchscreens are complemented by ultra-thin custom-designed LCDs, building an eye-level digital network for arriving passengers.

The digital network has the capability to integrate airport information, weather and emergency messaging for airport passengers.

“Denver International Airport has placed itself at the forefront of airport advertising; the leaders at DIA recognise the value of digital video advertising and we are now offering national and local advertisers new platforms that inspire their creativity and enable dynamic and integrated messages at various locations throughout the airport,” said Clear Channel Outdoor Specialty Businesses Executive Vice President Toby Sturek.
