THAILAND. DFASS Group has been appointed the inflight duty free concessionaire for NokScoot, a new long-haul low-cost carrier joint venture between Thai carrier Nok Air and Singaporean budget airline Scoot.

The new airline is being set up to compete with other low-cost carriers in the region, a business that is rapidly expanding in Asia Pacific through a series of joint venture agreements, said DFASS.

NokScoot will be based in Bangkok, Thailand, and will commence operations later this year.

DFASS Group Deputy Chairman John Garner commented: “We’ve enjoyed a fantastic business relationship with the team from Scoot, since we created the first Scootaloge. Their product range and service on board have gone from strength to strength and delivered double-digit growth each quarter. We appreciate the opportunity to bring our expertise to the newly created NokScoot.

“We understand the Thai passenger well, and our experience throughout the region will ensure the delivery of a desirable and focused product range on board. NokScoot crew will also be utilising the latest DFASS handheld technology to increase workflow and maximise revenue for the airline.”

According to media reports, NokScoot will operate on medium- and long-haul routes, with both Nok Air and Scoot investing US$64 million in the venture. Nok Air will own up to 51% of the company.

Nok Air CEO Patee Sarasin said: “It has always been Nok’s goal to offer Thais more choice and more value, of which this venture is yet another example. We’re also excited at the opportunity to encourage more inbound tourists, to boost the Thai economy.”

Scoot CEO Campbell Wilson added: “Thailand is Asia’s premier tourist destination and logical hub for Scoot to expand to.”
