Euro 2012 fever takes off at Kuala Lumpur International Airport

MALAYSIA. Football fever has taken over Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) as Malaysia Airports launches a “˜Kick-Off Zone’ to coincide with the UEFA Euro 2012 tournament, currently taking place in Poland and Ukraine.

Not only can passengers watch the games in the comfort of KLIA’s Main Terminal Building, but they also stand to win shopping vouchers and prizes.

Besides a giant LED screen showing UEFA Euro 2012 games in a comfortable and spacious environment, football enthusiasts also get the opportunity to play fuzz ball, pinball and virtual football during half-time

“Malaysians are known to be passionate football fans, and I dare say that other than food, football is our other national pastime,” said Malaysia Airports Senior General Manager Commercial Services Puan Faizah Khairuddin. “Recognising the importance of this football season to many Malaysians and foreigners, Malaysia Airports has set up a Kick-Off Zone at KLIA. The Kick-Off Zone will allow travellers and visitors to follow Euro 2012 even at the airport.

“More importantly, this whole initiative dovetails well with our focus of promoting our international airports as lifestyle destinations, given that football is certainly a lifestyle – if not the life-blood – of many.”

Located on the Departure Level (Level 5) of KLIA’s Main Terminal Building and at Samsung’s Sports Lounge, North Zone (Level 2) Satellite Building, the KLIA Euro 2012 Kick-Off Zone will broadcast live and repeat matches throughout Euro 2012. Golden goals, as well as the fixtures for the day/week, are also highlighted.

“We want to create a football stadium atmosphere at the Kick-Off Zone that will enable fans to be truly immersed in the total football experience,” added Khairuddin.

With a minimum purchase of RM50 (US$15.80), football fans will be given the opportunity to participate in the various games set up in the Kick-Off Zone. Winners will receive shopping vouchers and other football-related prizes. Shopping vouchers can also be won simply by uploading photos taken at the Kick-Off Zone photo wall and tagging “˜kliakickoffzone’. Passengers can catch up with the latest at www.facebook.com/kliakickoffzone.

Hyundai, an official sponsor of UEFA Euro 2012, has put up for display its soon-to-be-launched Veloster model at Level 5 of KLIA’s Main Terminal Building. This is said to be the only Veloster in Malaysia.
