Flemingo Duty Free partners with Sri Lanka mobile operator

SRI LANKA. Flemingo Duty Free has signed an exclusive partnership with mobile operator Mobitel, giving customers of the network in Sri Lanka discounts and access to promotions and offers from the retailer.

The deal with Mobitel’s Club Magnate programme will provide 7.5% discounts to all Mobitel customers and Club Magnate members at Flemingo Duty Free’s Arrivals and Departures stores in Sri Lanka.

Customers will also get monthly SMS updates on Flemingo’s promotions and offers as well as an exclusive welcome to Sri Lanka message from Flemingo Duty Free when they land and turn on their mobile phone. They will also be entered into a special raffle draw for an iPad.

“This will be an interesting way of getting our duty free promotions into the minds of passengers as they disembark the airplane,” said Flemingo Duty Free General Manager Sri Lanka Alec Denby.

Wholly owned by Sri Lankan Telecom, Mobitel has around five million customers with either pre-paid or post-paid connections and is currently looking to better target international roaming passengers, according to Flemingo. The network’s Club Magnate loyalty programme uses near-field communications technology.

“We are very happy to have signed this unique partnership with Mobitel. As a company we are constantly looking for diversity, excitement and creating key points of difference for our customers,” added Denby. “This partnership will ensure we are linked to a customer base in a completely new and interactive way.”
