Frankfurt Airport sets new record for September passenger traffic

GERMANY. Fraport-operated Frankfurt Airport handled 5.3 million passengers in September 2011, a gain of more than +4% year-on-year. The figure is a new record for the month.

“Our passenger figures remain on course and we expect to reach our forecast of +4% to +7% growth at Frankfurt for 2011,” said Fraport AG’s Executive Board Chairman Dr. Stefan Schulte. For the January-to-September 2011 period Germany’s leading gateway handled 42.8 million passengers – up by +6.7% year-on-year.

In September, Frankfurt Airport’s aircraft movements climbed by +2.1% year-on-year to 42,496 takeoffs and landings. During the first nine months of this year Fraport recorded 366,180 aircraft movements at Frankfurt – a jump of +4.9%.

Traffic at the Fraport Group’s majority-owned airports advanced steadily in September 2011. Antalya Airport in the Turkish Riviera served 3,323,333 passengers, representing a rise of +11.4% year-on-year. With 968,785 passengers, Lima Airport in Peru also recorded a double-digit increase of +12.5%.

Fraport’s two Bulgarian Black Sea airports also posted traffic gains in the reporting month: Burgas Airport received 323,864 passengers (up +18.0%) while Varna Airport had 182,318 passengers (up +3.4%).

The majority-owned group airports (including Frankfurt) welcomed a total of 10,101,972 passengers in September 2011 – up +7.7% year-on-year. Cumulative group figures for January to September 2011 surged by +9.8% year-on-year to 75,615,661 passengers.
