LITHUANIA. Gebr Heinemann has secured victory in a tender for new retail space at Vilnius International Airport, where it will open before the end of the year. The company will operate some 900sq m over two floors of a new terminal extension, which is under construction. The retailer will offer a full selection of travel retail merchandise.

Gebr Heinemann Head of Russia, CIS Region, Baltic States and Mongolia Pierre Viarnaud told The Moodie Report: “Although Lithuania’s development has lagged behind that of the other Baltic States until now, the economy is on the rise, there is a lot of construction and the number of passengers is growing rapidly. We are very optimistic about the potential for the business.”

The new expanded terminal will have capacity for 3 million passengers a year, according to the airport. In 2007 Vilnius is expected to handle 1.6-1.7 million passengers. In the first six months, passenger numbers grew by +14.8% to 756,896, compared to H1 2006.
